History
D.D. Palmer discovered chiropractic in the USA in 1895. Over the years, chiropractic has grown from strength to strength and is today the largest health care profession in the world after dentistry and medicine.
The word ‘Chiropractic’ comes from two Greek words. ‘Cheir’, which means ‘hands’ and ‘Prackticos’ which means ‘to use’.
Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic treatment consists of manipulative techniques, known as adjustments, to restore correct function and mobility and balance to the joints. There are over 50 different techniques that have evolved since 1895 and one of them is the McTimoney method of Chiropractic.
The Aims of Chiropractic Treatment
- To alleviate pain
- To realign any misalignments in the spine and other joints in the body
- To restore correct nerve function
- To promote natural health and healing
All organs and cells need nerve information to be conveyed correctly. Much nerve information is passed through the spinal cord, which is situated within the vertebral column (the spine).
Any misalignment or subluxation of the vertebral column can disrupt normal nerve function and possibly lead to discomfort, pain or even disease. Therefore establishing correct spinal alignment is paramount to our health and well-being.
